A surrealistic spoof of Alice in Wonderland & Cinderella.

From Russia comes a unique feast for the eye. “Tzarevna Scaling” is directed by Uldus Bakhtiozina who is also main actress, screenwriter, costume designer and the editor of the movie.

In 2014 Uldus was names by BBC one of the 100 women of year changing the world for the better. Her art has been widely exhibited all over the world and has been exhibited in the same exhibition with Yoko Ono, Marina Abramovich and Damien Hirst.

“Tzarevna Scaling” is a retro-futuristic feminist spoof on costume drama and tells the tale of the fishmonger Polina who drinks tea that she was given from a strange old woman who transforms her sleep into a fairy tale, where she is the tsar’s daughter.

The film has been compared with the works of Alejandro Jodorowsky ( El Topo, Holy Mountain ) and surreal combination mix of Alice in Wonderland and Cinderella. This is Uldus first feature and we can’t wait to see what she does next.

The film is screened at Stockfish!
