The Stockfish Film & Industry Festival (SFIF) today announces the Eva Maria Daniels Award for Vital Filmmaking, a new award for creators in the shorts program designed to honor the legacy of acclaimed Icelandic filmmaker and producer Eva Maria Daniels, who passed away last June after battling Cancer.\u00a0<\/p>

With the support of Daniels\u2019 partner Moritz Diller and son Henry, one standout Producer or Director in the SHORTFISH or SPRETTFISKUR competition will receive the inaugural award, commemorating Daniels\u2019 achievements and continued contributions to Iceland\u2019s next wave of filmmakers.\u00a0<\/p>

The winner will receive 1.5 million Icelandic kr\u00f3na towards developing their next project.<\/p>

Riva Marker is an award-winning producer of film, television, and stage. WILL O\u2019CONNOR<\/b><\/p>

Will O\u2019Connor is the co founder of Burn These Words films. After beginning his career working as a screenwriter he moved in to producing at The Mill on commercials for clients like Nike, Sony and Motorola. In 2013 he founded Fire Without Smoke – a games advertising agency – where he worked on award winning campaigns for brands like Assassins Creed, Star Wars and Microsoft Xbox. GUNNAR P\u00c1LL \u00d3LAFSSON<\/b><\/p>

Starting as an editor in Iceland’s film industry, he transitioned into directing and co-founded the collaborative directors duo Samuel&Gunnar. Together, they created commercials for respected brands like Mercedes Benz, Samsung, and McDonald’s, earning recognition for their storytelling and visual style. NIGEL GODRICH<\/b><\/p>

Nigel Godrich\u00a0is an English record producer, recording\/mix engineer, composer, artist and musician. He is best known for his work with the English band Radiohead, having produced all their studio albums since OK Computer (1997), singer Thom Yorke’s solo work and The Smile\u2019s first album. He is a member of Atoms for Peace (with Yorke) and Ultra\u00edsta. Other acts Godrich has worked with include Beck, Paul McCartney, U2, R.E.M., Warpaint, Pavement, Arcade Fire and Roger Waters. Sascha Drews\u00a0is a writer, director, and producer. His directorial debut, \u201cSurviving Crooked Lake\u201d, premiered at Slamdance 2008, and awarded him the Kodak Award for Cinematography. He founded VisionChaos Productions in 2012, with the mission to support original voices, and the belief that audiences want innovative and compelling stories. VisionChaos titles include “Hold the Dark”, “Joe Bell”, and the upcoming “So Very Badly\u201d (with Eat the Cat and Eva Daniels Productions). Drews also executive produced “The Field Guide to Evil” and “Climate of the Hunter\u201d. ELFAR ADALSTEINS<\/b><\/p>

Icelandic director, screenwriter and producer Elfar Adalsteins is the founder of the creative development company, Berserk Films. Elfar studied filmmaking at the Met Film School at Ealing Studios and holds an MA (Hons) in screenwriting from Goldsmiths University, London.\u00a0His short film, Sailcloth, starring late Oscar nominee John Hurt, received numerous international accolades and was shortlisted for the 2012 Academy Awards Oscars and BAFTA.<\/p>

Elfar\u2019s directorial debut feature, End of Sentence, a father-and-son road movie, starring Oscar nominee John Hawkes, Logan Lerman and Sarah Bolger, had a worldwide release in 2019, to critical acclaim.\u00a0His latest film, Summerlight & Then Comes the Night, premiered at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in 2022 and was awarded Best Nordic Film at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. In the film Elfar directs an all Icelandic ensemble cast from his screenplay adaptation of J\u00f3n Kalman Stef\u00e1nsson\u2019s celebrated novel.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

B\u00d6RKUR SIGTHORSSON<\/b><\/p>

B\u00f6rkur began his professional career in photography in Iceland and quickly branched into directing.\u00a0In 2004 he was signed to the renowned UK music video production company Oil Factory where he directed commercials for Nike, Honda and The Guardian along with music videos for the likes of Richard Ashcroft and Supergrass.\u00a0<\/p>

His award winning short psychological thriller COME TO HARM (2011) marked B\u00f6rkur\u2019s move into scripted drama.\u00a0Known for a striking and rigorous visual aesthetic, B\u00f6rkur went on to be a creative force on the international and critical hit Icelandic series TRAPPED (acquired by Amazon, and BBC4 in the UK) as well as directing the opening titles. He returned to direct a large part of both seasons 2 and 3.<\/p>

Oren\u00a0Moverman\u00a0is an Academy Award-nominated screenwriter, an Emmy Award-winning producer and a director of feature narrative and documentary film.<\/p>

Moverman received an Oscar nomination for his 2010 screenplay THE MESSENGER, co-written with Alessandro Camon, which was also his feature directorial debut. The film stars Ben Foster, Samantha Morton and Woody Harrelson.\u00a0 He went on to direct RAMPART, co-written with novelist James Ellroy, starring Woody Harrelson, Brie Larson, Ice Cube and Robin Wright.
