Stockfish Film Festival presents the first five films that will be screened during our carefully curated film days. We are proud and honoured to be presenting films that are all unique, beautiful, heartbreaking and humorous in their own ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A friendship between two young boys, Europe seen through the eyes of a donkey, a crazy bureaucrat during The Soviet Union regime, women in prison and the war in Ukraine witnessed through the eyes of a filmmaker are amongst the themes that are explored in these titles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stockfish will present an ambitious program for festival guests with selected international award-winning films as well as various special screenings and retrospects. The films will be accompanied by prominent guests from around the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cClose\u201d follows Stockfish program emphasis on films that received awards or nominations at the European Film Awards 2022 after the ceremony was held in Reykjav\u00edk last December. An intense friendship between two 13 year old boys, Le\u00f3 and Rem\u00ed, is disrupted without notice. Le\u00f3 has a difficult time understanding what happened and decides to approach Rem\u00ed’s mother. Based on the director’s own personal experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Close is one of the titles that conform the Stockfish LUX film corner, supported by the Delegation of the European Union to Iceland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alain Dessauvage, the editor of the film, will attend Q\/A\u2019s at the Stockfish Open Talks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022, filmmaker Mantas Kvedaravi\u010dius went to Ukraine, Mariupol, at the beginning of the war to be with the people he had met and filmed in 2015. Following his death, his producers and collaborators have put their strength into continuing his work, his vision and films.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In collaboration with the Polish Embassy<\/strong> in Reykjav\u00edk, Stockfish will present a Retrospective of the works of Jerzy Skolimowski<\/strong>, curated by Ewa Piaskowska<\/strong>, scriptwriter and Mr. Skolimowski\u00b4s wife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
EO is a grey donkey with melancholic eyes, born in a circus. On his journey through modern Europe he encounters good people and bad, but not for one moment does he lose his innocence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE RISE AND FALL OF COMRADE ZYLO<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Based on an Albanian novel, the premise is The Soviet Union regime during the 70\u2019s and focuses on the exploits of Comrade Zylo, a bureaucrat at The Ministry of Culture. In an attempt to impress his superiors and party members, Comrade Zylo manipulates Demka, an inspiring, frustrated writer to write on his behalf brilliant speeches and reports based on Zylo\u2019s improbable theories of what is Proletariat Culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The director Fatmir Ko\u00e7i will attend Q\/A\u2019s at the Stockfish Film Festival Open Talks. The producer, Mike Downey will also be attending.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a prison in Odessa, Ukraine, women are allowed to serve their sentence with their children until their third birthday. The film follows the cruelty of these women’s lives, their children and prison guards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From 2023, Stockfish will present a yearly “Industry in Focus”. For this edition the festival will host a delegation and side program from Slovakia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This event is part of the K\u00d3SY KINO project, which benefits from a grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants and has been co-financed from the State Budget of the Slovak Republic.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
