The 2023 Stockfish Award will go to&nbsp;<strong>Mike Downey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">STOCKFISH HONORARY AWARD 2023<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Mike Downey founded the UK-based independent production house&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/fame.uk.com\/\">Film and Music Entertainment (F&amp;ME)<\/a>&nbsp;in 2000 as part of an IPO on the Frankfurt DAX and to date has production credits on 100 feature films. He spent most of the eighties as a theater director and producer in France, Germany, former Yugoslavia and the U.K. Later in the nineties, he became the co-founder and publisher of the Moving Pictures International group of media publications. He then established the prolific UK production house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his relatively short career as a film producer, he has worked with the likes of&nbsp;<strong>Peter Greenaway<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Agnieszka Holland<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Julien Temple<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Pawel Pawlikowski<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Andrzej Jakimowski<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Rajko Grlic<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Srdjan Karanovic<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Juraj Jakubisko<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Fridrik Thor Fridriksson<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>Stephen Daldry<\/strong>, as well as a multitude of other directors in Europe, South America, Africa and India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mike\u2019s recent work as a film-maker has seen projects developed with novelists\u00a0<strong>James Ellroy<\/strong>, the late\u00a0<strong>Gunter Grass<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Thomas Keneally\u00a0<\/strong>(Schindler\u2019s List); IDA writer\u00a0<strong>Rebecca Lenckiewicz<\/strong>, VICE Group founder and CEO\u00a0<strong>Shane Smith<\/strong>\u00a0to name a few. In addition Mike has served as an Artistic Director for prominent film festivals and been an EFA member for almost a quarter of a century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stockfishfestival.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/1-1024x554.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12683\" width=\"768\" height=\"416\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stockfishfestival.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/1-1024x554.png 1024w, https:\/\/stockfishfestival.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/1-300x162.png 300w, https:\/\/stockfishfestival.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/1-768x415.png 768w, https:\/\/stockfishfestival.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/1-1536x830.png 1536w, https:\/\/stockfishfestival.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/1-600x324.png 600w, https:\/\/stockfishfestival.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/1.png 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He has been a board member of the European Film Academy for nearly two decades and served three 2-year terms as deputy. In 2020 he was elected to become Chairman of the European Film Academy. In the past Mike was also voted on to the Council of the BAFTA as well as the BAFTA Film Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to all that\u2019s mentioned above, which is only in brief, Mike is a board member of ICFF, the International Coalition for Filmmakers at Risk, whose mission is to advocate for and to act in solidarity with filmmakers at risk. The Coalition acts in cases of persecution or threats to the personal safety of these filmmakers and will defend their right to continue their work, by mobilising the international film community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The award is designed by&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lavaland.is\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Lavaland Iceland<\/strong><\/a><strong>&nbsp;and will be given at a private ceremony during the festival HUB,&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.port9.is\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Port 9<\/strong><\/a><strong>.
