Producer: Lina Maria Bullwinkel
Lenght: 15 min
Country: Iceland & Germany
In this introspective journey through Iceland’s breathtaking landscape,
a young woman discovers not only the beauty of nature but also the depths of her own soul.
In search of meaning and identity, our protagonist finds a mysterious book titled “Týnd Sál” in her solitary Airbnb. It contains
handwritten notes and a map with ten marked locations. Driven by curiosity and a desire for change, she decides to follow these traces.
Each location reveals a new facet of the unknown writer – and simultaneously reflects the inner struggles of our heroine. From the lush
greens of a vibrant meadow to the endless blue of the horizon, from the consuming power of fire to the gentle silence of rain – each stop
becomes a metaphor for her emotional journey.
As she delves deeper into the writer’s story, a tragic love story unfolds. The initial descriptions of Icelandic beauty gradually give way to
accounts of loss, grief, and a desperate search for healing. In this tension between Iceland’s overwhelming nature and the intimate
narrative of the unknown, our protagonist begins to confront her own fears and insecurities. She realizes that her trip to Iceland is more
than just an adventure holiday –
it’s a journey to herself.
She reaches the emotional climax at the penultimate location, where she experiences the full extent of the writer’s loss and
simultaneously breaks through her own life crisis. Upon arriving at the final point, a surprising message awaits her that will change her
life forever.
“Týnd Sál” is a visual ode to the healing power of nature and the transformative power of self-reflection. It’s a story about loss, love, and
the courage to take one’s own destiny into one’s hands. In Iceland’s raw beauty, our heroine finds not only the lost soul of the unknown
writer but also the path to herself.

questions about identity and the meaning of life.

Kvikmyndir
Traustur vinur
Director: M. Loki
Producer: M. Loki
Lenght: 80 – 90 min
Country: Iceland
English:
The film begins from the perspective of a home video camera, with Valdís’ parents filming her and her brother at their family cabin. The video ends with the children running off to play hide-and-seek in the surrounding forest.
A decade later, Valdís’ group of friends decides to reunite at her cabin. Valdís brings her family’s old video camera to capture the reunion.
The audience is shown brief, unsettling glimpses of a strange creature stalking the group, dressed in a fox mask and moving like an animal. As old wounds and secrets surface, the group begins to fall apart, while the creature draws closer, searching for an old friend.
When one of the group is murdered, and Valdís discovers the killer is her missing brother, each member must decide who they are willing to leave behind and whom they can truly trust.
M. Loki is graduating from the Icelandic University of the Arts this spring with a BA in filmmaking, and with a focus on screenwriting. The aim with his stories has always been to move the audience in one way or another, and the mixing of different emotions and is always the core to his stories. Striving to be able to make an audience laugh, cry and be terrified in the same movie is what fuels Loki’s filmmaking career.
Loki’s directing style is very grounded, subtle and authentic. Using long takes and delicate acting is his main way of drawing his audience into a story. Letting the audience discover the story and get time to read into each facial expression, is a key part of Loki’s storytelling, but mixing this with intense, fast-moving sequences is ultimately what distinguishes Confidant, his first feature film.
M. Loki is graduating from the Icelandic University of the Arts this spring with a BA in filmmaking. He strives to break the boundaries of film production and create his own path for unconventional storytelling, with the aim being to make films that feel fresh, real, and pungent; while not having to rely on the traditional production format. Through his career and education, Loki has gathered experience producing ambitious short films and music videos with low-to-zero-budgets, that include interior viking bloodbaths, bar-fights, cranes and car rigs, and animal handling for a lamb. Most of this has been made possible through the mindset of only using what you have access to, and for Loki that includes a vast group of diverse and highly talented colleagues, schoolmates, and friendships. Confidant is Loki’s first attempt to take that same mindset and use it to make a feature film.
